CORINTH's BYNUM INKS WITH NEMCC MEN's TENNIS
Was Part Of Four State Championships At CHS

BOONEVILLE, Miss. --Northeast Mississippi Community College tennis coach Ricky Smither has signed Ward Bynum (Corinth) to an athletic scholarship to compete for the NEMCC men’s tennis team beginning in the Fall of 2008.

Northeast’s tennis teams are moving up to NJCAA Division-One competition in the Fall. Bynum becomes the Tigers’ first scholarship tennis athlete since the 2004 season.

“Ward’s ability, and competitiveness speak for themselves in all of his accomplishments at Corinth (High School) the last four years,” said Smither. “He was on a great team in each of the last four years, played for great coaches, at a very high level. He’s exactly the kind of student-athlete we’re looking for in this men’s tennis program.”

As a senior in 2008, Bynum led CHS to its fourth consecutive 3A boys state championship. The Northeast signee will compete in the MHSAA North/South All-Star competition in Jackson in June. As a junior in 2007, Bynum was also part of the state champion mixed-doubles team.
