NORTHEAST TENNIS ANNOUNCES 2009 SPRING SCHEDULE

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College’s men’s and women’s tennis teams will face off with steady competition after jumping to Division I during the 2008-09 off-season.

Northeast faces a four-day, four-team south Mississippi trip to start the season.

Northeast picks up Jones County Junior College, Pearl River Community College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and East Central Community College all during the first four days of the season.

Northeast kicks off the season at Jones County on February 24 before attacking Pearl River on February 25 and Mississippi Gulf Coast and East Central on back-to-back days on February 26-27.

After the opening road trip, Northeast travels to perennial power Itawamba before hosting its first match of the year.

Northeast will play its first home match of the season on March 9 versus Meridian Community College.

After opening the season on the road for five straight matches, first-year Northeast Tennis Coach Jeff Melson has back-loaded the schedule taking the lion’s share of the home matches near the end of the season.

Northeast hosts five different teams from March 27-April 3 which includes matches with Jones County, Snead State (Ala.), Holmes, Itawamba and Copiah-Lincoln.

All matches will include men and women’s singles and doubles events with the exception for Snead State (Ala.) which is slated at a women’s only event.

Northeast’s final home match will come against Pearl River on April 7 as the Tigers and Lady Tigers tune up for the State Tournament in Hattiesburg on April 16-18.
