December 1, 2009 TIGERS SNAP ROAD SKID AGAINST NORTHWEST-SHOALS BOONEVILLE, Miss. – For Northeast Mississippi Community College men’s basketball team it all began and ended at the Patriot Center in Muscle Shoals, Ala. David Robbins’ Tigers knocked off the Northwest-Shoals Patriots 86-65 in the nightcap on Monday, November 30 ending a 13-game road-losing skid for the Tigers. Northeast’s last win on the road came against Shorter College (85-65) in the Northwest Mississippi Community College Tournament on November 11, 2008 and the Tigers last true win on an opponent’s hardwood came against Northwest-Shoals Community College on November 4, 2008 when Northeast knocked off Northwest 92-83 at the Patriot Center. However, Monday’s matchup was an entirely different story as Northeast jumped on Northwest-Shoals early and never took its foot off the gas. Tyrie Berry (Blue Mountain) and Dominique Hunt (Portsmouth, Va.) combined for 28 of the Tigers 86 points as every Tiger player checked into the scoring column in the win. Northeast (3-5) raced out to a 50-27 lead at the break and held on for the 19-point victory as Northwest-Shoals mounted a comeback midway through the second half. Kayo Taylor (Orlando, Fla.), who was held scoreless in the first half, squashed any type of Patriot comeback with eight second-half points as the tigers shot over 45-percent from the floor for the entire game. In the women’s contest, Northwest-Shoals jumped on Northeast early leading by 54-33 at the break in taking a 108-74 victory over the Lady Tigers. Sophomore guard Al’Lisha Hudson (Charleston) led the way for the Lady Tigers with a double-double. Hudson pulled down 10 rebounds in addition to a team-leading 20 points on the night for Northeast. Sophomore Ranisha Williams (Pontotoc) and Amber Johnson (Pine Grove) checked in with double digits for the Lady Tigers with 13 and 11 points apiece.
