  • Words and Phrases You Will Need to Know

Definitions
  • Major - A primary designated course of study that leads to a college degree.
  • Degree -An Academic title that is awarded to someone who has completed a given course of study.
  • Credit Hours – The approximate average      number of hours spent in a      course in one week.

Definitions
  • Classes meet on a set schedule, not every day.
  • MWF – Monday, Wednesday, Friday
  • TTH – Tuesday, Thursday


  • Full time – 12 hours per semester is typically classified as full time.
  • Part time – Anything less than that is part time.

Types of Programs

Degrees Available

University Parallel Degrees
  • These programs are offered for students who plan to transfer to a Senior College to earn a four year degree.
  • Requirements:
    • High School Diploma
    • GED
    • ACT
    • An Associate of Arts Degree will be awarded upon completion of core requirements.

Associate of Arts Degrees

  • This degree is awarded at Northeast.
  • A student must earn a minimum of 63 semester hours which are applicable toward a Bachelor’s Degree and
  • earn a GPA of at least 2.0

Career and Technical Programs
and A.A.S. Degrees

  • Programs offered for students who will seek employment upon completion of program.  All programs are designed to be completed here, however transfer of credit is at discretion of receiving university.
  • Requirements:
    • High School Diploma
    • GED
    • ACT

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree


  • Awarded to students who complete requirements in Technical programs
  • A student must complete designated number of semester hours and
  • earn a minimum GPA of 2.0

  • Programs include:
  • Auto Body Repair:
    • High School Diploma or GED
  • Automotive Mechanics and Service Tech.:
    • High School Diploma or GED
  • Heating and Air Conditioning:
    • High School Diploma or GED and ACT

  • Programs include:
  • Machine Tool and Die:
    • High School Diploma or GED and ACT
  • Practical Nursing Education:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • and a minimum ACT of 17
