STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Northeast is associated with a number of student organizations
that provide opportunities for students to exercise their academic experience
more fully.
CHRISTIAN NURSING FELLOWSHIP - The primary purpose of this
organization is to provide and strengthen Christian professional fellowship
among future nurses. Activities include sharing, worshipping, ministering, and
witnessing through Christian professional fellowship. CNG provides an opportunity
for expanded Christian services such as mission support, Samaritan's Purse Project,
donations to St. Jude's Children's Research hospital, and prayer/card ministry.
COLLEGE REPUBLICANS OF AMERICA - This organization is for students
interested in becoming active in the political process.
COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN AND DRAFTING TECHNOLOGY CLUB - (CADD)
- The intent of this organization is to keep students informed of developments
and employment information in the field of computer-aided design and drafting
technology. This is achieved through field trips and guest speakers.
The club takes a field trip in the spring semester to an industry, museum, houses
and buildings, or to universities with majors to which the students can transfer.
DELTA EPSILON CHI - (DECA) - This organization is for students enrolled
in Business Marketing Management Technology, Fashion Marketing Technology, and
Hotel/Restaurant Management Technology.
The purpose of this organization is to develop leadership and management skills.
It is affiliated with International Delta Epsilon Chi, which is a college division
of
DECA. It encourages free enterprise and economic awareness through individual
and group activities, marketing projects, and exposure to successful business
leaders.
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CLUB - The purpose of this organization
is to make students aware of issues and problems facing the environment today,
to provide information of actions being taken by many to solve these problems
and prevent further damage, to discuss relevant ecological principles, and to
show the importance of human relationships to the environment.
FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES - Membership is open to current
college athletes, former high school athletes, and athletic support groups such
as band and cheerleaders. The purpose of this organization is to present to
athletes, coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure
of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships
and in the Fellowship of the church. FCA co-sponsors the annual "See You
at the Pole" patriotic event. This group meets each first and third Wednesday
at 8:15 P.M.
FORESTRY CLUB - The organization is affiliated with the Mississippi
Junior College Agriculture Association. It offers membership to students majoring
in forestry and other related agricultural fields. The purpose of this club
is to develop leadership, management, and scholastic abilities in community
college agriculture related programs; to promote cooperative relationships with
business and the industrial community; and to promote a favorable image of agriculture
to the American public.
FUTURE EDUCATORS OF AMERICA (FEA) - The purpose of
the FEA is to provide students with opportunities to explore teaching as a career
option, to help students gain a realistic understanding of the nature of education
and the role of the teacher and to coordinate information about teaching as
a profession. The organization provides information about employment opportunities,
financial assistance options, and educational issues.
MEDICAL ASSISTING TECHNOLOGY STUDENT CLUB – The purpose of this
organization, open to students enrolled in Medical Assisting Technology, is
to develop professionalism, employment skills, and knowledge of new technology
and the job market. This club serves as a bridge between students and medical
assistants that are part of the professional organizations such as the National
Society of Medical Assistants and Mississippi Society of Medical Assistants.
MUSIC CLUB - The goal of this organization is to afford students
of music the opportunity for professional orientation and development while
still in school and to increase knowledge and interest in all areas of music.
MISSISSIPPI ORGANIZATION OF ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING-STUDENT ASSOCIATION - NORTHEAST
MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHAPTER (MOSA-NEMCC) - This organization
is open to all students enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program at
NEMCC. The goal is to provide encouragement and support, to promote and maintain
open channels of communication among individuals and organizations interested
in health care, and to participate in the annual MOSA convention. MOSA-NEMCC
has several projects that help promote the Associate Degree nursing profession.
Members organized the third annual Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk this year.
A heart healthy booth was set up in the student union in February. Members took
blood pressures and handed out heart healthy literature. A favorite project
of students is the annual Teddy Bear clinic. Children from the NEMCC daycare
bring their favorite stuffed animal or doll for a checkup. The A.D. nursing
students enjoy this opportunity to help decrease the children's anxiety about
visiting their health care professional. MOSA-NEMCC meets one time a month during
activity period.
PHI BETA LAMBDA (PBL) - This is an organization for students
who are pursuing degrees in a business or business-related field who accept
the purpose of PBL, subscribe to its creed, and possess qualities for employment.
It is the post secondary branch of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
The goals of PBL are as follows:
• Develop competent, aggressive business leadership skills.
• Strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their world.
• Create more interest in and understanding of the American business enterprise.
• Encourage members in the development of individual projects that contribute
to the improvement ??f home, business, and community.
• Develop character, prepare students for useful citizenship, and foster
patriotism.
• Encourage students to practice efficient money management.
• Encourage scholarship and promote school loyalty.
• Assist students in the establishment of occupational goals.
• Facilitate the transition from school to work.
PHI THETA KAPPA - This organization promotes scholarship, develops
character, and cultivates fellowship among community college students. Invitation
to membership may be extended to the student who qualifies for the Dean's List
or the President's List and who exemplifies good moral character and qualities
of leadership. Meets third Tuesdays and on called basis in Seth Pounds auditorium.
PRE-PHARMACY CLUB - The purpose of the club is to further interest
in pharmacy and to provide activities for Pre-Pharmacy majors. Membership is
open to Pre-Pharmacy majors.
PHOTON CLUB - This club is open to students who are enrolled
in the Radiological Technology program. The purpose of the Photon Club is to
promote the field of Radiological Technology by encouraging students to discuss
their experiences in the program. This gives students an opportunity to express
concerns and challenges of the program and to share ways to make those two years
as pleasant and educational as possible. The club's main events are turkey and
ham sales and the MS State Radiological Technology conference in the fall semester,
and the board exam review seminar in the spring semester. The Photon Club also
donates holiday turkeys and hams to needy families.
PSYCHOLOGY CLUB - This organization is for psychology majors
to have the opportunity to experience academic and professional relationships
and share information regarding: 1) undergraduate education in psychology, 2)
the career outlook for psychology, 3) individual and group interest in the field,
4) transfer credit to the four-year college and university, 5) planning and
preparing for graduate or professional school, 6) planning and preparing for
a career in psychology, and 7) other current research and issues relevant to
the discipline of psychology.
RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS - Campus organizations include Baptist
Student Union, Church of Christ Foundation, Wesley Foundation, Latter-day Saints,
and Newman Apostolate.
RESPIRATORY CARE TECHNOLOGY CLUB – Open to Respiratory
Care majors. The purpose of the club is to promote the profession of Respiratory
Care. This organization will focus on areas of interest such as employment skills,
current trends and changes in technology, and job opportunities.
SKILLS USA-VICA - This is an organization which promotes vocational-technical
education, leadership skills, and competitive skills as its main functions.
Skills USA-VICA is a club for secondary and post secondary students in the Vocational
and Technical programs. District competitions as well as state and national
contests are held worldwide every year to highlight the students in these programs.
SOCIETY OF STUDENT SCIENTISTS - The purpose of the club is
to further interest in science by student participation. Membership is open
to majors and minors in chemistry, biology, or physics.
STUDENT AMERICAN DENTAL HYGIENISTS' ASSOCIATION (SADHA) - This
organization is for students majoring in Dental Hygiene Technology. The purpose
is to promote interest and to encourage professional development. SADHA meets
the first Tuesday of the month .
VISUAL ARTS LEAGUE - This club is for students interested in
all phases of art. The prime objective is to promote an interest and better
understanding of art on the campus and in the surrounding communities.
