CHILDERS ADDRESSES PTK INITIATES -- Dustin Childers of Booneville, a 2004 graduate of Northeast Mississippi Community College and a recent graduate of the University of Mississippi, delivered the charge to more than 100 students recently inducted into Northeast MississippiCommunity Colleges Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Childers urged members to get involved in chapter activities and projects and informed them of the many benefits chapter membership opens at senior institution, including scholarships to colleges and universities nationwide. At Northeast Childers was treasurer of the Iota Zeta chapter. Childers, who is in real estate sales with Childers Realty in Booneville, was recently elected vice chairman of Northeasts Alumni Relations Council. Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappais an international honor society composed of 1100 chapters at colleges in the United Statesand Canada International headquarters for the organization are located in Jackson, Miss. PTK seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas, and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education. Approximately 48,000 new members are initiated each year. Recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society of two-year colleges. Northeasts Iota Zeta chapter is a Five Star chapter, the highest rating given any chapter, and has been recognized as an exemplary model. It is open to students enrolled full-time who maintain a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
