NEMCC HONOR SOCIETY OFFICERS ATTEND HONORS INSTITUTE - Officers of Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society attended the 2006 Regional Honors Institute at Delta State University July 27-29.  Institute participants were entertained with a luncheon and ride on the Tunica Queen Riverboat.  Attending the meeting from Northeast were (l-r) Zach Bray, Iuka, vice president for fellowship; Barbara Shackelford, Booneville, advisor; Rusty Whitten, Corinth, president; Ray Harris, Booneville, advisor; Mark Williams, Booneville, treasurer; and Cody Burchell, Booneville, vice president for service of the Iota Zeta chapter and Mississippi’s northern region vice president.  Northeast is a part of the Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama region.  Northeast’s Iota Zeta chapter was recently awarded a Pinnacle Silver Chapter Award in recognition of their membership acceptance campaigns, signifying an increase of 10 percent in membership over the previous year.  The chapter was also recognized as a Five Star Chapter, the highest rating given.  Phi Theta Kappa is an international organization composed of 1100 chapters at colleges in the United States and Canada.   Phi Theta Kappa’s international headquarters are located in Jackson, Miss.  The honor society seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education.  Phi Theta Kappa is recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for two-year colleges.
