NEMCC STUDENTS ATTEND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Cody Burchell of Booneville and Joel Barron of New Site attended Phi Theta Kappa International Leadership Conference for regional officers at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. June 16 – 18. Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society of the two-year colleges. Burchell is Northern Region Vice President and Barron is vice president for the Mississippi-Louisiana region. The conference offered in-depth instruction in major Phi Theta Kappa programs, networking with fellow regional officers, and goal-setting strategies for the 2007-08 regional goals. The duo also had the opportunity to meet with Phi Theta Kappa’s 1007-08 International Officers.

Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society composed of 1100 chapters at colleges in the United States and Canada. International headquarters for the organization are located in Jackson, Miss. PTK seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas, and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education. Approximately 48,000 new members are initiated each year.. Northeast’s Iota Zeta chapter is a “Five Star” chapter, the highest rating given any chapter.
