PTK MEMBERS TALK TRASH AT BOONEVILLE ELEMENTARY
Several members of the Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society at Northeast Mississippi Community College spent an hour recently talking trash with Tammy Mauneys fourth grade gifted class at Booneville Elementary School. The group talked about different ways to implement source reduction as a method for reducing the amount of trash humans produce on a daily basis and played Trash Bingo. Phi Theta Kappa has partnered with the national organization Keep America Beautiful to educate the community about environmental issues and to reduce trash in the five county area. Phi Theta Kappa is an international organization composed of 1100 chapters at colleges in the United States and Canada. Phi Theta Kappas international headquarters are located in Jackson, Miss. The honor society seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education. Phi Theta Kappa is recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for two-year colleges. Advisors of the Northeast chapter are Ray Harris, Andrea Mathis and Barbara Shackelford, all of Booneville.
