TIS BETTER TO GIVE-- Phi Theta Kappa member Jessie Killough of Corinth pays close attention to a United Blood Services (UBS) technician while he participates in a Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)-sponsored blood drive at Northeast Mississippi Community College January 23. The colleges Iota Zeta chapter of PTK and UBS officials set a goal of 50 units for the drive. Thanks to the support of the Northeast students, faculty and staff, 54 units were donated. The drive was the second of three scheduled for the 2006-07 academic year. PTK will serve as the primary sponsor for each of the drives. Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society composed of 1100 chapters at colleges in the United States and Canada. It is the official honor society of two-year colleges. PTK seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas, and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education. Northeasts Iota Zeta chapter is a Five Star chapter, the highest rating given any chapter, and has been recognized as an exemplary model. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is open to students enrolled full-time who maintain a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
