Blood Drive At NEMCC

GIVING THE GIFT OF LIFE-- Mindy Brady of Ripley relaxes while a United Blood Services (UBS) technician inspects the equipment used to draw blood during the Phi Theta Kappa(PTK)/Student Government Association(SGA)-sponsored blood drive at Northeast Mississippi Community College September 11. The college’s Iota Zeta chapter of PTK and UBS officials set a goal of 48 units for the drive. Thanks to the support of the Northeast students, faculty, staff and friends, 54 units were donated. The drive was the first of three scheduled for the 2007-08 academic year. PTK will serve as the primary sponsor for each of the drives. Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society composed of 1100 chapters at colleges in the United States and Canada. International headquarters for the organization are located in Jackson, Miss. PTK seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas, and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education. Approximately 48,000 new members are initiated each year. Recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society of two-year colleges. Northeast’s Iota Zeta chapter is a “Five Star” chapter, the highest rating given any chapter. It is open to students enrolled full-time who maintain a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
