BURCHELL RECOGNIZED AT NEMCC -- Cody Burchell of Booneville was recently recognized by the advisors of the Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Northeast Mississippi Community College for the contributions he made to the chapter as the chapter’s 2006-07 vice-president for service. Presenting the plaque is Dr. Ray Harris of Booneville, one of the chapter advisors. Cody also served as northern regional vice-president of the Mississippi/Louisiana Region of Phi Theta Kappa. Northeast’s Iota Zeta chapter was recently recognized as a Five Star Chapter, the highest rating given and was also named the Dr. Shelby Harris Most Improved Chapter for 2006. Based on participation in regional meetings, the five star achievement program and submission of awards entries for competition, the winning chapter is determined by the regional coordinator and regional officers and is based upon the chapter’s revitalization of activities and programs. Phi Theta Kappa is an international organization composed of 1100 chapters at colleges in the United States and Canada. Phi Theta Kappa’s international headquarters are located in Jackson, Miss. The honor society seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education. Phi Theta Kappa is recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for two-year colleges. Cody is the son of Jeff and Vickie Burchell.
