Cole Awarded Scholarship

BOONEVILLE, Miss.-- Northeast Mississippi Community College sophomore David Cole of Booneville was recently awarded a $250 scholarship by Phi Theta Kappa, the official honor society for two-year colleges and The National Dean’s List.

Cole, a 2006 graduate from Thrasher High School is a computer science at Northeast. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the LDSSA (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Student Association). Cole earned President's List recognition (4.0 grade point average) for both the fall 2006 and spring 2007 semesters, and was also a member of Northeast’s State Community College Computer Programming Competition 1st place team.

Cole is also an Eagle Scout.

Founded in 1918, Pi Theta Kappa is an international honor society composed of 1200 chapters at colleges in the United States, US Territories such as Guam and American Samoa, Canada, Germany, British Virgin Islands, United Arab Emirates, Micronesia, Palau, and the Marshall Islands. International headquarters for the organization are located in Jackson, Miss. Phi Theta Kappa seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas, and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education. Approximately 100,000 new members are inducted each year. Recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society of two-year colleges. Northeast’s Iota Zeta chapter is a “Five Star” chapter, the highest rating given any chapter. It is open to students enrolled full-time who maintain a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
