PTK SENDS BANNER TO VIRGINIA TECH

Members of Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society made a banner available for Northeast graduates to sign during commencement rehearsal at the college. The banner was sent to Virginia Polytechnic Institute to show concern for the tragic loss of lives on that campus. Approximately 300 signatures appeared on the banner. Pictured signing are Rusty Whitten (l) of Corinth, 2006-07 Phi Theta Kappa president, and Joel Barron, New Site, 2007-08 co-president. Northeast’s Iota Zeta chapter was recently recognized as a Five Star Chapter, the highest rating given and was also named the Dr. Shelby Harris Most Improved Chapter for 2006. Phi Theta Kappa is an international organization composed of 1100 chapters at colleges in the United States and Canada. Phi Theta Kappa’s international headquarters are located in Jackson, Miss. The honor society seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education. Phi Theta Kappa is recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for two-year colleges.
