WILLIAMS RECOGNIZED AT NEMCC -- Mark Williams of Booneville was recently recognized by the advisors of the Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Northeast Mississippi Community College for the contributions he made to the chapter as treasurer for 2006-07. Presenting the plaque is Barbara Shackelford of Booneville, one of the chapter advisors. Williams, a graduate of Tishomingo County High Schoolm was recently named to the 2007 All-Mississippi Academic Team for Community and Junior Colleges. Northeast’s Iota Zeta chapter was recently recognized as a Five Star Chapter, the highest rating given and was also named the Dr. Shelby Harris Most Improved Chapter for 2006. Based on participation in regional meetings, the five star achievement program and submission of awards entries for competition, the winning chapter is determined by the regional coordinator and regional officers and is based upon the chapter’s revitalization of activities and programs. Phi Theta Kappa is an international organization composed of 1100 chapters at colleges in the United States and Canada. Phi Theta Kappa’s international headquarters are located in Jackson, Miss. The honor society seeks to foster the development of leadership and service, to provide an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and to encourage the establishment of scholarships for advanced education. Phi Theta Kappa is recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for two-year colleges.
