BARRON RECOGNIZED AT NEMCC --
Joel Barron of Booneville was recently recognized by the advisors
of the Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Northeast
Mississippi Community College for the contributions he made to
the chapter as co-president for 2007-08. Presenting him with a
certificate appreciation is Dr. Susan Scott of Corinth, one of
the chapter advisors. Barrons was recently named to the 2008
All-Mississippi Second Academic Team for Community and Junior
Colleges and was also named to Whos Who Among American
Junior Colleges. He was recently named one of five outstanding
students in the Fine Arts Division at Northeast. A music major,
he is a graduate of Red Bay, Ala. High school. Joel is the son of
Bobby and Sandra Barron.
Northeasts Iota Zeta chapter was recently recognized as a
Five Star Chapter, the highest rating attainable. Based on
participation in regional meetings, the five star achievement
program and submission of awards entries for competition, the
winning chapter is determined by the regional coordinator and
regional officers and is based upon the chapters
revitalization of activities and programs. Iota Zeta was named a
Top 100 chapter for 2007-08 at the recent international
conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Phi Theta Kappa
International Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson,
Mississippi, is the largest honor society in American higher
education with 1,250 chapters on two-year and community college
campuses in all 50 of the United States, Canada, Germany, the
Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the
Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the
United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. More than
two million students have been inducted since its founding in
1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually.

Theta Kappa is the official honor society of two-year colleges
