BURCHELL RECOGNIZED AT NEMCC -- Cody Burchell was recently recognized by the advisors of the Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Northeast Mississippi Community College for the contributions he made to the chapter as co-president for 2007-08. Presenting him with a certificate of appreciation is Dr. Susan Scott of Corinth, one of the chapter advisors. Burchell was recently named to the 2008 All-Mississippi First Academic Team for Community and Junior Colleges. He also received Phi Theta Kappa’s Golden Key Award as an outstanding member. A radiologic technology major, he is a graduate of New Site High School. Cody is the son of Jeff and Vickie Burchell.

Northeast’s Iota Zeta chapter was recently recognized as a Five Star Chapter, the highest rating attainable. Based on participation in regional meetings, the five star achievement program and submission of awards entries for competition, the winning chapter is determined by the regional coordinator and regional officers and is based upon the chapter’s revitalization of activities and programs. Iota Zeta was named a Top 100 chapter for 2007-08 at the recent international conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, is the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,250 chapters on two-year and community college campuses in all 50 of the United States, Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. More than two million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually. Recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society of two-year colleges.
