Course:  Nursing  Care of the Adult II ( NUR 2449)

 

Catalog Description:  NUR 2449 – Nursing Care of the Adult II.  (Prerequisites:  all freshman level courses, CHE 1313, NUR 2339, NUR 2333.  Corequisite:  NUR 2443.)  The nursing process continues with emphasis on the evaluation of care for the adult client experiencing deprivations and /or threats to human needs.  Emphasis is placed on decision-making skills and critical thinking.  Care for clients with psychosocial deprivations in included.  Five hours lecture and twelve hours clinical/laboratory per week. (9 semester hours).

 

Course Objectives:

1.     Integrate all phases of the nursing process to evaluate health care for the critically/chronically ill adult client.

 

2.     Integrate principles of biophysical and psychosocial sciences as they apply to the client experiencing threats / deprivations.

 

3.     Demonstrate safe performance of previously learned and higher level skills.

 

4.     Adapt the role of manager of care to more complex situations.

 

5.     Adapt therapeutic communication techniques to meet the needs of clients with alterations in biophysical and psychosocial health.

 

6.     Practice in a caring, accountable, legal, and ethical manner.

Unit II -  Threats / Deprivations to Safety and Security:  Physiological

Unit III – Threats / Deprivations to Safety and Security: Sensory

Unit IV – Threats / Deprivations to Safety and Security:  Mobility

Unit V- Threats / Deprivations to Safety and Security:  Psychological

Unit VI – Threats / Deprivations to Physiological Needs

 

Teaching Strategies:  Lecture, discussion, visual aides, laboratory and clinical practice, demonstration, group dynamics, computer lab assignments.

 

 

 

Evaluation Methods:

            Theory:  Multiple choice exams,  math quizzes.

Clinical:  Pre-clinical work, clinical evaluation, post– clinical work, group teaching project.
