ADMINISTRATION OF PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Development and administration of programs for young
children to include an emphasis on evaluation of policies and procedures,
organizational structure, and management.

OBJECTIVES/COMPETENCIES:
- Discuss
employability skills.
- Compose
a philosophy of early childhood education.
- Compose
a personal folder to include a cover letter, resume, application, and
letter of resignation, etc.
- Demonstrate
interviewing skills.
- Discuss
the administration of an early childhood program.
- Explain
the roles, responsibilities, and ethics required of employees of a
childcare facility.
- Describe
leadership styles and the impact on employee behavior.
- Explain
the Mississippi Department of Health Regulations Governing Licensure of
Child Care Facilities.
- Demonstrate
the use of childcare center environmental rating scale.
- Discuss
the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Identify
funding sources and other community resources.
- Construct
a business plan for a childcare facility.
- Assess
available community, family, and professional resources.
- Research
and identify appropriate Internet resources designed to support childcare
facilities.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
- ATTENDANCE: Students are expected to attend all
class meetings. Students absent
more than six (6) classes will be asked to withdraw or will be cut from
the class. If for some reason a
student must be absent, I may be contacted at 662-720-7214 (office),

- PARTICIPATION: Students are expected to have read the
assigned material and to be prepared for class participation.
- PERSONNEL
FOLDER: Each student will
participate in a mock interview.
Time and location will be determined by the person conducting the
interview.
- MOCK
INTERVIEW: Students will
participate in a mock interview.

- RATING
SCALE: Using a Child Care
Environmental Rating Scale evaluate an area child care center. Write a summary of findings and present
an oral report to the class. Due
date will be announced by the instructor.

- BUSINESS
PLAN: Each student will write a
business plan f or a child care facility.
Due date will be announced by the instructor.
- RESOURCE
NOTEBOOK: Each student will
compile a notebook/file of one hundred (100) brochures, etc. from local, state, and
national resources/services related to child care. Internet websites will be included. The name of each agency, address,
services provided, name of contact person, phone numbers, website
addresses, etc. must be included in the notebook. Notebooks will not be accepted after
the due date! Start writing to

websites! Do not wait! Appendix C and Appendix D in your
textbook provide a great beginning for sources! DUE
FRIDAY, MARCH 24TH.
- EXAMS: Several short exams and a final will be
completed. Students are discouraged
from making up exams. Exams may be
made up only if you are sick and have a doctor’s excuse, when there is a
death in the immediate family, and at the discretion of the instructor! Exam make up days will be announced
by the instructor.

The following grading scale will be used: A 95
– 100
B 85 – 94
C 75 – 84
D 70 -74
F 69 and below
