            PSYCHIATRIC ASSESSMENT COUNSELOR:

Responsibilities included performing initial diagnostic evaluations for the full range of psychiatric disorders;  triaging patients in a mental health care program; and performing psychological consultations with medical staff and family.  Provided these services at 14 separate sites including family medical clinics and affiliated community hospitals.  Responsibilities also included providing routine psychological evaluations, attention-deficit evaluations, psychotherapy and family therapy to local public schools, a group home for foster children, and Head Start children and their respective families in three area counties.  Related hospital community service provision consisted of presenting workshops on child/adolescent development and behavior management to area public and private schools and parents.

 

            CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY TECHNICIAN 10/90 ‑ 01/91:

Working 10 to 15 hours each week with adolescents experiencing substance abuse problems.  Primary responsibility was to assist the clinical staff in facilitating clients through a 30 to 45 day AA/NA recovery program.  Specifically, responsibilities were to assist in guiding the clients through their self‑assessment, abuse history assessment, and primary care development.

Practice included service provision of basic psychological, ADHD, and developmental disorder evaluations; determining diagnoses; and providing collegial, teacher, and parent consultations.  Also included were the provision of individual child, adolescent, and adult psychotherapy; and family therapy services.  Other related practice services were presenting workshops to the area public and private school teachers and parents in child behavior management and child and adolescent development.

            INTERN:

Worked in a pre-doctoral internship, 40 hours each week (2000 clock hours total), and conducted dissertation research on site, at Region III Mental Health Center's Center for Children.  Internship responsibilities included providing basic psychological, ADHD, and neuropsychological evaluations (60% of clinical time); determining diagnoses; providing individual and family therapy (combined 20% of clinical time); and providing collegial, teacher, and parent consultations (combined 5% of clinical time).  Also included was the clinical supervision of master's level students (2.5% of clinical time).  Other responsibilities involved presenting two workshops to the area public and private school teachers, Head Start teachers, and parents on child and adolescent behavior management and child and adolescent development.  I received at least five hours each week of combined group and individual supervision time from the center's clinical director and a staff psychologist (12.5% of clinical time).

            CHILD BEHAVIOR THERAPIST:

Piloted a program with Project Head Start in Lee, Pontotoc and Monroe counties.  The program involved working with children who were referred and identified by assessment as experiencing learning, cognitive, behavioral, emotional, developmental, social and/or adjustment problems.  Responsibilities included: performing clinical screening and assessment processes by way of interview,

behavior rating scales, clinical observations, and formal instruments; determining

diagnoses; formulating and evaluating treatment plans; teacher, staff, and parent consultations; and providing family and individual therapy.  Other service provision included crisis intervention for one week every two months on the center's 24-hour emergency line.
