The Landscape Management Technology program is an instructional program that prepares individuals to locate, plant, and maintain turf, plants & shrubs for the beautification of home grounds and other areas of human habitat and recreation. Landscape Management Technology is an Associate Degree technical program designed to provide advanced and technical skills to its students. The technical program consists of four semesters of technical skills at the community college level. Students who complete the Associate Degree program are qualified to sit for licensing examinations held by the Division of Plan Industry, Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce. License are issued for ornamental pest or disease control, ornamental and turf weed control, and landscape gardening. These licenses are required for persons engaging in these activities in the state of Mississippi. Program Components Landscape design concepts and preparation techniques Installation and maintenance techniques Use of plant materials and applied soils, with emphasis on classification and identification procedures Landscape business management that includes management concepts of ornamental and turf pest, maintenance weed control, along with turf grass management Associated and related drafting - computer operations and applications, and botany principles Employment Outlook: Demanding in the tri-state area of Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee. Employment opportunities are stable and growing in horticulture services operations and management, landscaping management and entrepreneurship.
