Workforce Investment Act

The Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) was enacted in October 1998. Mississippi implemented the act July 1, 2000. The purpose of WIA is to provide workforce investment activities that increase the employment, retention, and earnings of participants. These activities include opportunities for the participants to be trained or retrained in occupational skills that are in demand in the local area. This increased occupational skill attainment by participants will reduce welfare dependency, and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the Nation.

The WIN Job Centers are funded by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) through Northeast Mississippi Community College (Lead Operator), Mississippi Partnership, Three Rivers Planning and Development and the Employment Training Division of the Mississippi Development Authority.
