A variety of Northeast students put their educational prowless to the test at a number of state competitions.

Northeast’s Delta Epsilon Chi Association recently competed at the state competition in Hattiesburg. The following is a list of those Hotel & Restaurant Management (HRM), Business Marketing Management (BMM), Business Information Systems (BIS), Liberal Arts (LA) and Pre-Medicine (PM) students who placed in competition.
Competitive event winners included Paula Bristow of Etta (BIS), Internet Marketing, and Christy Grissom of Iuka (HRM), Restaurant and Foodservice Management, third place; Kraig Adams of Iuka (LA), Sales Management Meeting, Clarissia Gumm of Booneville (HRM), Sports & Entertainment Marketing Team, Erica Lawhorn of Belmont (HRM), Business-to-Business Marketing Team, Lamesha Patton of Corinth (HRM), Restaurant and Food Service Management, Antionette Pickens of Tupelo (HRM), Sports & Entertainment Marketing Team, Kasie Roberson of Ripley (BMM), Marketing Management, and Mandy Sides of Ripley (HRM), Business-to-Business Marketing Team, fifth place; and Ashley Andrews of New Albany (PM), Human Resource Management, Zach Brownlee of Calhoun (HRM), Sports & Entertainment Marketing Team, Antonio Mullins of New Albany (HRM), Sports & Entertainment Marketing Team, and Jason Parker of Red Bay, AL (HRM), Design Presentation, sixth place.
Josh Hurd of Booneville (BMM) was elected State Chairperson;Zach Wright of Iuka (HRM) State Secretary and Kasie Roberson of Ripley (BMM) State Reporter. Hurd was also chosen 2007-08 Outstanding State Officer. Erica Lawhorn of Belmont (HRM) was an Outstanding Local Chapter Member Finalist. Christy Grissom of Iuka(HRM) was a DECA Alumni Division Scholarship recipient.
Chapter awards were Chapter of the Year, second place, Antonio Mullins (HRM), chairperson, State Newsletter/Web Page Award Certificate of Recognition, One Hundred percent Membership Certificate, and two Charity Support Certificates (Donations to Diabetes Foundation of MS & a Memorial Fund for an Instructor/Advisor who passed away this year).
Tim Gilmore, Northeast’s hotel and restaurant management instructor and one of two chapter advisers had nothing but praise for the chapter members who competed.
“We are very proud of all of our students who participated in state competition,” Gilmore said, “and we are making plans to attend the International Delta Epsilon Chi Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on April 11-16, 2008.”

Three Northeast students placed at the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) State Leadership Conference held recently in Tupelo.
Molly Burcham of Corinth took top honors in Client Services, second place in Financial Services, and was named Who’s Who. Chris Robbins of Ripley earned a fourth place nod in Computer Concepts and fifth place in Help Desk,and Joanne Smith of Belmont claimed second place in Job Interview and in Client Services.
Burcham and Smith qualified to compete at the National PBL event in Atlanta, Ga. this summer.
Northeast’s PBL chapter received recognition for its continued contribution to the March of Dimes, and an award for Best Themed entry for Wednesday night’s welcoming party.

Four Northeast art students recently placed at the state community/junior college art competition held at ItawambaCommunity College.
Kelly Dimos of Booneville took first place honors in the photography category and earned an honorable mention in the painting and 2-D design category. Jessica Jackson of Marietta garnered a second place nod in the drawing category while Brittany Spencer of Booneville grabbed a third place ribbon in the 2-D design category and an honorable mention in photography. Shane Montgomery of Blue Springs picked up an honorable mention in painting.
