By Anna Shadburn, Staff writer

French fries, burgers, pizza and carbonated beverages.

These foods are typically what come to mind when asked the eating habits of college students. Though these foods are fulfilling and tasty, it's no news they're not the healthiest foods to consume.

This story is not talking about diets, but what exactly college students need to be eating on a daily basis to maintain good health?

According to www.ygoy.com, there are 10 foods we should keep in our daily diet.

1) Spinach is rich source of folate and Omega IIIs. It reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, and osteoporosis and contains luetin which fights muscular degeneration.

2) Tomatoes contain the antioxidant lycopene, which reduces the risk of prostate, skin, lung, bladder and stomach cancers. Tomatoes also reduce the risk of coronary artery disease.

3) Yogurt boosts the immune system and protects from cancer.

4) Carrots protect from several types of cancers and helps with asthma and rheumatoid arthritis.

5) Blueberries help in preventing cancer, age-old changes in memory and diabetes. They contain fiber and Vitamins A and C plus help boost the cardiovascular system.

6) Oats contain soluble fiber, which reduces the risk of heart disease. They do contain carbohydrates, but their release is slowed by the fiber content which in turn gives off a lot of muscle building energy from them.

7) Walnuts contain Omega IIIs (good for the heart) and protein (good for muscle building).

8) Black beans are good for the heart and boost brain power. They contain anthocyanins, which are anti- oxidants that improve the brain functioning.

9) Whole grains

10) Oranges/Orange juice are good. They contain antioxidants such as beta carotene and vitamin C and flavonoids and carotenoids, which are good in preventing cancer.
