Artist gallery features self-taught Northeast alumnus

Northeast’s art gallery currently holds pictures from a self-taught artist, Tony Bullard.

Bullard, a self-taught artist, practiced five to seven hours a day throughout his high school years before graduating from Alcorn Central High School in 1985. He attended Northeast from 1985 to 1987 majoring in art.

Bullard’s subject matter varies but mainly focuses on local historical topics, cars (many from Dukes of Hazard), trains & country art.

From time to time he has done Christian art, portraits of celebrities (some of Elvis Presley for the annual Elvis Presley week, and Jay Leno), and cartoon characters.

Bullard has come a long way from not knowing anything about art to having his art works publicized. Bullard and his art have been featured on WTVA Channel 9 News in Tupelo, and on WKNO 10 in Memphis.

In December 2008, Bullard made a coloring book entitled “Historic Corinth Coloring Book (Volume I)” but the book was not designed for just coloring; it was to help children learn also.

Each page has a historic drawing and a fact about the picture below it.

Other interests that Bullard takes on are designing t-shirt, which he did for the Crossroads chili cook-off, writing songs, inventing board games and card games, and has been a professional sign painter for over 25 years.

In addition, he has begun illustrating children’s books but those books have not been released to the public yet.

Bullard has begun designing a web site for his artwork. When finished, this page will display over 200 pieces that he has done. Within a few months, one will be able to go to www.tonybullardart.com to look at his various art works that he has completed.

Tony is motivated by one scripture from the Bible, which is Ecclesiastes 9:10. “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might…”

Bullard’s art work is in Anderson Hall Art Gallery from October 26th through November 20th. Art gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
