ATTENDANCE

Please read carefully the official attendance policy in the college catalog.  Absences due to school-sponsored trips and activities are not counted and all work missed for that reason including homework may be made up. All other absences including sickness ARE counted.  The maximum number of absences for night classes is expected to be 2.   Students with excessive absences will be cut out of class.  If 20 minutes or more of a class are missed, an absence will be recorded.

If you come in late, you must see me THAT NIGHT after lecture to be marked present. If you fail to do this, the absence will stand.

Hour exams missed due to unavoidable circumstances may be made up. There will be one makeup day  at the end of the semester for all makeup tests, both lab and lecture. Although makeup exams may differ from exams given at the scheduled time, it is YOUR responsibility to leave the classroom while the class is going over returned papers for an exam you missed.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY

Classes may be dropped during the first 2 weeks. Beginning the third week, you may withdraw from the class at any time until shortly before final exams.

OBJECTIVES

The student will gain insight into both the anatomical and physiological levels of organization of the human body by use of both microscopic and macroscopic techniques of study. The student will gain an understanding of anatomical terminology, basic biochemistry, structure and functions of cells and tissues, and basic anatomy and physiology of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular and nervous systems of the human body

METHODS FOR MEASURING OBJECTIVES.

The student will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the scientific data included in the objectives of this course by scoring at least 70% on teacher-made tests including both objective and subjective questions. Six hour exams and a comprehensive departmental final will be given, each including the following material:

     1st Chapters 1 & 2                        5th Chapters 10 & 11

     2nd Chapter 3                               6th Chapters 12 - 15 plus 17

3rd Chapters 4 & 5                       Final comprehensive over entire semester

     4th Chapters 6 - 9

Grades will be determined as follows:

     A  90 - 100

     B  80 - 89

     C  70 - 79

     D  60 - 69

     F  59 or below

You will receive 1 final grade which includes both lab and lecture.

*        60 %   average of the 6 hour exams and your homework/bonus test grade

*        30 %   lab grade

*        10 %   final exam, which will be comprehensive

You will have regular homework assignments which will be graded. Short bonus tests (both assigned and surprises) will be given in class. Those arriving late receive a zero on homework---don’t ask me to look at it if you were not in class on time.  At the end of the semester I will drop your 3 lowest grades on homework/bonus tests and average the rest. This will count the same as one hour exam. Homework and bonus tests are not made up, so regular attendance is essential. The only exception to this is for school-sponsored absences.

Please keep a record of your grades. I do not do averages until all work is complete.
