ATTENDANCE

Please read carefully the official attendance policy in the college catalog. Absences due to school-sponsored trips and activities are not counted and all work missed for that reason including homework may be made up. All other absences including sickness ARE counted.  The maximum number of absences for summer classes is expected to be 2.

Attendance will be checked at the beginning of each class. If you come in less than 10 minutes late and wish to be counted present, you are required to turn in a tardy slip before leaving the classroom. You must include name, date, time of arrival, and reason for being late. Missing more than 10 minutes of a class will be counted as an absence, and no tardy slip is required in this case. Three tardies of less than 10 minutes each will be counted as an absence.

Only hour exams missed due to unavoidable circumstances may be made up. There will be one makeup day just before finals for all makeup tests, both lab and lecture. At this time, you must present a written excuse explaining why you missed the exam. Although makeup exams may differ from exams given at the scheduled time, it is YOUR responsibility to leave the classroom while the class is going over returned papers for an exam you missed.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY

If you are cut out due to excessive absences, a grade of F will be recorded. You must withdraw before the deadline to have the F changed to a W, otherwise the F will remain on your transcript.

SCANTRON SHEETS AND HOUR EXAMS

Students must bring one large Scantron sheet for each hour exam, On the last day of class, one large sheet will be required for the 6th hour exam and one small sheet for the final. One small sheet is required for each of the 2 major lab tests. ( This is a total of 6 large and 3 small Scantron sheets.) Students who fail to comply with this will not be allowed to take exams and there will be no makeups f or this reason.

Six hour exams and a final exam will be given, each including the following material:

     1st Chapter 1  &  2

     2nd Chapter  3

     3rd Chapters 4 & 5

     4th Chapters  6  -  9

     5th Chapters  10  -  11

     6th Chapters 12 - 16

  Grades will be determined as follows:

     A  90 - 100

     B  80 - 89

     C  70 - 79

     D  60 - 69

     F  59 or below

You will receive 1 final  grade which includes both lab and lecture.

*         60 %   average of 6 hour exams and your homework/quiz grade

*         30 %   lab grade

*         10 %   final exam, which will be comprehensive

You will have regular homework assignments which will be graded. Short quizzes will be given in class. Those arriving late receive a zero on homework and/or quizzes---don’t even ask for credit if you were not in class on time.  At the end of the semester I will drop your 3 lowest grades on homework/quizzes and average the rest. This will count the same as one hour exam. Homework and quizzes are not made up, so regular attendance is essential. The only exception to this is for school-sponsored absences.

Please keep a record of your grades—I do not do averages until all work is complete. I plan to post hour exam grades on Blackboard, but homework & quizzes will not be posted.
