About Us

History

Located in the northeast corner of Mississippi, near the tiny town of Tishomingo, Crow's Neck Environmental Education Center sits on a 530-acre peninsula owned by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and surrounded by 6,600-acre Bay Springs Lake.  Since 2001, Northeast Mississippi Community College, in Booneville, has been fiscally responsible for Crow's Neck and handles all the day-to-day operations.

The facility was built under the supervision of the United States Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway Mitigation Project.  Serving nearly 6,000 guests per year, Crow's Neck is a "natural place to learn" where professional, skilled naturalists teach school children from the tri-state region in the "outdoor classroom".

Crow's Neck first opened its doors for programming in April 1993.  Our programs and classes are aligned with the Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama state curriculum frameworks.

Mission Statement

Crow's Neck Environmental Education Center uses hands-on, outdoor education activities to create in-depth learning experiences which foster responsible stewardship of Northeast Mississippi's natural and cultural resources.

Note from the executive director

On behalf of our staff, thank you for dropping by!  We're excited to offer an introduction to one of the South's premier environmental education facilities.  Still new in years, but already rich in tradition, Crow's Neck has earned a regional reputation by providing personalized service and creating special memories.  Sitting on a 530-acre peninsula, which juts out into northern Mississippi's beautiful Bay Springs Lake, Crow's Neck has been described by one frequent visitor as "more than just a place, it's an experience!"

Each year, teachers from all over Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama bring their students to our unique woodland campus to experience an "up close and personal" learning adventure. Some groups come just for the day, but our most rewarding visits often include a two-night stay. Taught by professional, skilled naturalists, our diverse programming fosters cooperation and imagination in students of all ages, and is designed to support the curriculum frameworks for Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama public schools.  However, any of our standard programs may be customized to meet the individual needs and specific interests of your group.

Crow's Neck also serves as a naturally beautiful and secluded setting for adult groups to celebrate, gather or retreat.  Our facilities include four spacious lodges, each with 26 beds and separate counselor's quarters.  The 15,000-square foot educational building houses a 150-seat auditorium, a sunny dining hall complete with picture windows and a fireplace, as well as classrooms, a fully-equipped laboratory, and conference rooms.

I invite you to take a visual tour and then give us a call to explore how Crow's Neck can meet your needs. Welcome to our very special neck of the woods!
