Charlie Conerly also known as "All American Chunkin’ Charlie" was born on September 19, 1921 and raised in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Charlie Conerly is known as one of Mississippi’s best quarterbacks.
As a college student he attended Ole Miss and joined their football team in 1942and again 1946-48. During his college years he got many awards and set many records. To begin with, he set three records in the NCAA for the most passing yards (1,367), pass completions (133), and consecutive passes without interception (61). Not only did Charlie Conerly get so many awards but he also helped his team earn Ole Miss Team of the Century and the SEC Championship.
After Charlie Conerly finished College he joined the New York Giants in professional football. During his professional career he was awarded for Rookie of the Year. He was also named NFL Player of the Year and had a 14 Year NFL Career. After retirement, Charlie Conerly was elected to the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame.
For all he has done for football and Mississippi , Charlie Conerly is now recognized in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, and each year Mississippi’s best football player gets to take home a trophy named in his honor.
