Audrey Faith Perry Hill was born on
September 21, 1967,
in
Jackson
,
Mississippi. Faith, along with brothers
Steve and Wesley were raised by Ted and Edna Perry in the little town of
Star,
Mississippi. By the age of three, Faith was
singing her heart out at family gatherings. Faith made her first public
performance at a 4-H mother-daughter luncheon at the age seven. Little did
Faith know but that was the beginning of a wonderful career. Influenced by
Reba McEntire, Faith formed her first band at 17 while attending
McLaurin
High School.
After graduation Faith, high school diploma in hand, decided to make the
move to
Nashville. After the many failures to
jump start her career, she settled for a position with a music publisher. Faith
proclaimed herself as a closet singer, until an in-house writer, David Chase,
overheard her singing. David encouraged Faith to tape herself singing and play
it for their boss Gary Morris. When
Gary
heard the tape he went absolutely nuts and convinced Faith to leave her
job and find her spot in the stars.
Along with the help of her song-writer friend Gary Burr, Faith composed
a demo tape. The demo tape made a very nice impression at Warner Brothers
Records. Signed with Warner Bros. Faith put her first album on the market “Take
Me As I Am” in 1993. The songs on the album were mostly written by non other
than Gary Burr. Faith’s first album went double platinum and grabbed the AM
award for Best New Female Country Artist in 1994. Faith’s second album, “It
Matters to Me”, was released in 1995 and ended up being a triple platinum
album. That following year Faith was named one of People Magazine’s 50 most
beautiful people. Faith preformed at the closing ceremonies of the 1996 summer
Olympics in
Atlanta.
On the 6th day of October in 1996 Faith married fellow
country singer Tim McGraw. On
May 5, 1997,
Tim and Faith were blessed with
their first child Gracie Katherine. The following year on August 12 Tim and
Faith were again blessed with their second child, Maggie Elizabeth.
Faith
decided to take a break from mother hood and get to work on her third and most
rewarding album “Faith”. In 1999 "Faith" landed her ACM’s Top Female Vocalist,
Video of the Year, Song of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year for her
song “This Kiss”. Faith also got the 1998 CMA award for Music Video of the Year. Faith
made another impact with her fourth and most popular album to date, “Breathe”.
“Breathe” is Faith’s best selling album having gone seven times
platinum. Faith is today still pounding out the albums with her latest release
“Cry” in 2002. “Cry” seems to very promising and has great things
expected of it.
