Fred Smoot

 

 

Fred Smoot has accomplished many goals  in high school, college, and in the NFL. Smoot has also proven many wrong in his day.  Smoot has been from the bottom of the bottom  and has come all the way toward  the top. Fred Smoot has showed that a football player coming from high school does not have to weigh a certain number of pounds and does not have to be really tall to play for a division 1 college.

            Fred Smoot was the son of Ms. Katherine Jordan. He was born April 17, 1979 in Jackson Mississippi. He attended Provine High School there  . As a cornerback for Provine, Smoot started all his years there and was one of the best that played.  Smoot was selected to be in Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game is senior year.

            As a freshman in college, Smoot made his first appearance at Hinds Junior College . As a freshman Smoot also recorded eighteen deflections and recovered two fumbles and tied the record for second place for interceptions. Smoot's sophomore year he was named to be the First-Team All-American at defensive back as a National Junior College Athlete. Smoot was one of the top  fifty players selected.

            Graduating from Hinds College , Smoot signed with the Mississippi State Bulldogs. As a junior, Smoot received an award for First-Team All-Sec. He was also credited for the sixth pick of the season in the Peach Bowl vs. Clemson. In 2000, Smoot was credited for fifty-five stops and nineteen broken passes, with an additional  five interceptions. In Mississippi , Smoot was awarded with an All-American and Thorpe Finalist Award in 2000.

          Fred Smoot was drafted into the NFL. Not being the biggest or the tallest, he was still named one of the greatest to ever play for Mississippi State .   Smoot has been in the NFL for five years and has started each. He  becomes better  each year.. ESPN names Smoot as a soon to be one of the great  backs in NFL history.
