Gail Pittman, known for her hand-painted dinnerware and home accessories is a very distinguished lady from Mississippi. She graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1971 with a BA in Elementary Education. She taught in Jackson, Mississippi public schools for four years before retiring to spend more time with her two small kids.
In 1979, Pittman begin painting and decorating ceramics as a hobby, and as gifts. In the early 1980’s she begin taking pieces of her pottery and ceramics to Canton, Mississippi, Flea Market where people from all over the country come to purchase hand crafted goods. During this time and throughout the early 80’s Pittman produced her craft at her kitchen table. By late 1987 demand for her product was so great that she purchased an 1,800 square foot building where she relocated her business.
In 1992, Gail Pittman, Inc. moved to a 55,000 square foot facility in Ridgeland, which is her present place of business, where she employs over 100 people.
Gail was recognized as "Outstanding Women of the Year" in 1992 and
was a 1993 finalist for "Entrepreneur of the Year". In 2001 she was
inducted into the Mississippi Business Hall of Fame and was also elected into
the University of Mississippi Alumni Hall of Fame. In 2002, Pittman was voted
Mississippi’s Leading Business Woman.
