Herbert Theriot a well known, and respected calf roper in professional rodeo's PRCA. Calf roping involves roping the calf’s head then get off the and tying the calf's feet. The calf must stay tied for ten seconds.
Theriot is from Poplarville, Mississippi. He is thirty-five and he and his wife, Renee have two sons Marcus, 7 and Mason, 1. He is a rodeo veteran, but he has been in the transition from full time rodeo to full time dad. Herbert said that one day he hoped to go back to full time rodeo but he is happy with his family right now.
Herbert Theriot won the PRCA World Championship Calf Roping event in 1990. Herbert was fifth in 1990 in the all around cowboy class earning $80,249. Herbert won the tie-down roping class in 1994 earning $151,922. Herbert has also been a twelve National Finals Rodeo qualifier. Herbert was runner up at the NFR All Around Cowboy in 1998 earning $228,561. He is twenty- third on the all time earnings list in pro rodeo careers.
Herbert is also a famed horse breeder and trainer. He has trained many that have made a name for themselves in the PRCA. Herbert had the 2000 AQHA/ PRCA horse of the year Leo Sen Bar. Herbert Theriot also had the tie down horse of the year in 2001. He is continuing his breeding and training in his retirement.
