Lerone Bennett Jr.

 
Lerone Bennett, Jr. is a very talented and popular writer known for his  articles in Jet and Ebony magazine. What people do not know about him is his continuing  effort to end racism and to let the world see life from a black man’s eyes.

Bennett was born in Clarksdale,on October 17, 1928. He received a bachelor’s degree in journalism form Morehouse College in 1949. After college Bennett began writing for the Atlanta Daily World and then went on to become associate editor for Jet magazine. From 1953 until 1987 he was the executive editor for Ebony magazine.

Out of a series of articles written for Ebony emerged his very first book. Before the Mayflower: A History of Black America. Bennett wrote  other books: The Negro Mood, What Manner of a Man, Wade in the Water and others. He received numerous awards for his works:  Book of the Year Award from Capital Press Club in 1963, Patron Saints Award from Society of Midland Authors in 1965, Literature Award from American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1978 and he also received honorary degrees from Morehouse College.


Lerone Bennett, Jr. is an extremely talented writer who wants to end prejudice and give the famous African Americans, who have done so much for society, the recognition  and appreciation they deserve. Lerone Bennett, Jr. has become  popular and appreciated for speaking his mind to the world and becoming the voice of so many other African Americans who have has the exact same thoughts and feelings but could never be heard.
