Muddy Waters was born April 14, 1915, in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. His birth name was McKinley Morganfield, the nickname "Muddy Waters" was given to him by a cousin. Following the death of his mother, the young Muddy Waters moved to Clarksdale to live with his grandmother.

After being introduced to music through a harmonica at the age of 13, Muddy picked up the guitar and changed the blues forever. Within a year, Muddy had mastered the Delta’s bottleneck style, and was ready for the world. In 1943, at the age of 28, Muddy moved to Chicago in search of work. After a few years of truck driving and playing small clubs, he finally began to record. Following a few exploratory records, Muddy scored with his first hit single “ I Can’t Be Satisfied”.

Muddy Water’s most prestigious awards and achievements included  8 Grammy Awards, 5 W.C. Handy Blues Awards, and  2 Down Beat Magazine Awards.

Muddy Waters to this day is still considered one of the most influential blues artist of all time. Muddy died silently in his sleep April 30, 1983. The music world will forever miss him.
