Ode Burrell

                                               

Ode Burrell was born in Durant on September 15, 1939.  Burrell attended Holms junior College from 1961 to 1962.  There he became a Junior College All American and State 220 Yard Dash Champion.

Burrell started as tailback for two seasons at Mississippi State University.  He was the leading rusher, punter, and punt/kickoff returner.  In 1963, Burrell was MVP for the Liberty Bowl, Blue-Gray Game and the Senior Bowl All Star Game.

Burrell's professional football career began with the Houston Oilers in 1964 and ended in 1969.  In 1967, he was elected as MVP and claimer the title of Houston's leading rusher.  He was the only pro player to be ranked in the top five for both rushing and receiving in 1967.
